Eco-Art Demonstrations

5–7 p.m.
Steinberg Family Sculpture Garden, 1st Floor

Turn your everyday objects into art and flowers by participating in outdoor demonstrations of recycled art making with RePlayGround and urban composting with GreenBridge. Ride your bike to the event and get a free repair lesson with Time’s UpRain Location: Hall of the Americas, 1st Floor.

img_0054Blending indie-rock with traditional Latin instrumentation, Pistolera traverses musical borders with their politically conscious, irresistibly danceable Spanish songs.

 

Screening and Performance

5:30–6:30 p.m.
Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Auditorium, 3rd Floor

The Puppeteers’ Cooperative presents a popular theater using folk pageantry, parades, and earth-friendly themes. A screening of the short film El Ultimo Elote (2003, 2 min.), a claymation by Triqui children about the very last ear of corn, precedes the performance. Free tickets (340) are available at the Visitor Center at 5 p.m.

 

Hands-On Art

Paint the reflection of a landscape on water, inspired by the work of artist Gustave Caillebotteand other nineteenth-century painters. Free timed tickets (380) are available at the Visitor Center at 5:30 p.m.

See Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (Tim Burton, 1985, 90 min., PG), the classic love story of a man and his bike. Free tickets (340) are available at the Visitor Center at 6:30 p.m.

Meet at the entrance to Gustave Caillebotte: Impressionist Paintings from Paris to the Sea, 5th Floor

Student Guides give a conversational gallery talk on Gustave Caillebotte.

 

Film and Discussion

Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, Forum, 4th Floor

Filmmaker Laura Hanna and activist farmer Severine von Tscharner Fleming share a sneak preview of scenes from The Greenhorns, their documentary about the young American farmer movement, and discuss the art of farming from a woman’s perspective. Free tickets (30) available at the Visitor Center at 6:30 p.m.

Meet at the entrance to the Contemporary Art Galleries, 4th Floor

At the Brooklyn Museum’s Target First Saturdays, thousands of visitors enjoy free programs of art and entertainment each month from 5–11 p.m. All evening long, the Museum Café serves a wide selection of sandwiches, salads, and beverages, and a cash bar offers wine and beer. Parking is a flat rate of $4 starting at 5 p.m. All other Saturdays, the Museum closes at 6 p.m.

Please note that due to limited capacities, some Target First Saturday programs require tickets. Ticket lines often form 30 minutes before ticket distribution at the Visitor Center located in the Rubin Lobby. Members may pick up tickets from the Membership Desk beginning at 2 p.m. while supplies last. Programs subject to change without notice.

Born into Brothels (Briski and Kauffman, 2005, 85 min., NR) is a poignant look at the lives of children growing up in an Indian red-light district as they document their own community.
